Someone You Love: A Grumpy Sunshine Forced Proximity Romance Kindle Edition
Charly Johnson created a bucket list when cancer left her mother with less than a year to live. They didn’t make it all the way through the list before she died, but she made Charly promise to finish it and live her life to the fullest.
Spending the summer in a coastal mountain city in Maine is next on her list. The scenic town is perfect for finding adventure, and the quirky inn owner makes her feel right at home in the guest house.
Except for the fact that her new living quarters belong to the owner’s grump of a nephew.
Bryce Holden was an NFL player before sustaining a career-ending spinal injury. The people he thought would stand by his side left him when he was no longer a football star. Now, he prefers to live his life as a recluse, keeping outsiders at arm’s length where his heart is safe.
The last thing Bryce needs is to fall for a beautiful woman who will leave him like everyone else. But when he sees Charly’s incomplete bucket list, and the bruised heart she wears on her sleeve, he resolves to help her on her journey.
Even if it means losing her at the end of it.
*Someone You Love is a touching forced-proximity summer contemporary romance about a former NFL star who is disabled, and a sweet heroine who's trying to heal after the loss of her mother. This is a standalone novel with several open-door steamy scenes, and a HEA.

About the author

Kristen Granata is a teacher by day, and a bestselling romance author by night. Known for writing emotional contemporary romance, she loves creating realistic characters who struggle through the darkest parts of life and come out stronger on the other side. Kristen is a self-proclaimed "bitter cynic trapped in a hopeless romantic's body." Her inspirational stories will make you laugh, make you think, make you cry--and they always live happily ever after.
Kristen openly shares her mental health struggles with her readers. Her message is a beacon of hope to anyone who is suffering: You are not alone. She delicately weaves this theme into her writing, and her stories demonstrate the ability of love to heal after tragedy.
When she's not teaching or writing, Kristen is reading, tripping over something, indulging in her messy obsession with popcorn, and forever singing along to The Greatest Showman soundtrack.

The love story was beautifully written and filled with everything I love in a romance. Banter, grump/sunshine trope, angst, hurt and comfort, humor, communication, and hot steam. But what made this book stand out is not just the disability representation, which I found to be written with care and attention to detail, but the amount of insight I got out of it.
Something the book makes clear is that even with the most love and best intentions, people can hurt those with disabilities by not truly hearing them or seeing them, what they need, and who they are. The world of disability is so nuanced and everyone’s journey is different. I won’t pretend to know what that’s like. But I did learn valuable lessons (without feeling like I was being “taught”) on the mindset of someone with a disability and how to consider the world from their perspective.
Kristen also handled the topic of grief so well too. Charly was strong, and sweet, and optimistic. But her pain from losing the person who meant most to her was palpable.
I adored Bryce and Charly, as individuals and together. They were fleshed out and self aware but still flawed humans. And don’t get me started on Bea. We all need a Bea in our lives! All of the characters were engaging and felt “real.” The little world Kristen created at the inn was one I wish I could hop into.
I recommend this book for so many reasons. I couldn’t put it down, I loved the characters, I loved the deep themes and the way the author tackled them. But most of all, it was just a beautifully written love story that gave me hope. And I can’t ask for anything more.
I was given an ARC of this book and this is my honest review.
Overall, it was an enjoyable read. I did especially love the way the main characters love each other. It was real, and much deeper than the romances in other novels that are based purely off of infatuation and lust. Their love was so much deeper than that. Sacrificial, compassionate, intimate. I would recommend this book.
Kristen has a reputation for making her readers cry, which I don’t enjoy doing, but love her and wanted to not only support her, but challenge myself by reading something outside of my comfort zone. This book was an emotional rollercoaster and I loved every minute of it. I laughed A LOT, I swooned, and my heart broke to pieces a couple times. There’s just a lot of heart in this book, you can’t help but get emotional.
Charly and Bryce are perfect for each other. Charly is adoooorable, compassionate, kind, and accepting of Bryce, innately. I want to be friends with her. She’s been through a lot, dealing with her mother’s cancer, but will always see the bright side of things. Bryce is the grumpy, cinnamon roll hero who doesn’t think he’s a hero (which just make you like him more). Plus, he can cook and I love his relationship with his grandma, Beatrice.
Speaking of Grandma Bea, I just LOVED her and how can you not love a book with a lovable pooch? I also need me a second book with Jenny and Anthony.
We know this book is emotional, but it’s also super sexy. This book is a slow burn, but once they give in to it, it’s hot, hot, hot.
I know I struggle with self worth at times, so I felt a connection to Bryce. I’d like to leave you with a couple of my favorite quotes in case you need them also:
“Your worth is not a reflection of the people who weren’t capable of loving you the way you deserve to be loved.”
“Everyone’s a little broken. We’re kind of like crayons. Broken crayons still color, right? We all have something to give, and we can contribute to the creation of a beautiful picture.”
